Enabling Whois Privacy will protect your personal information from hackers, spammers, or other malicious individuals online. For .ca domain names, your Whois details are removed from public view, while for gTLDs such as .com, .net or .org, your domain registration information is masked with generic information. You still retain full ownership and control of your domain name with Whois privacy activated.
.ca Domain Names:
When you register or transfer a gtld domain, you can select to enable or disable Whois Privacy. Updates submitted to change the status of the Whois Privacy for your domain may not take effect immediately.
We also provide a bulk interface for Whois privacy updates. On the My Domains page, click the check box beside any domain that you wish to enable privacy for and select Enable Whois Privacy under the List Actions section. All domains that have had their Whois privacy enabled will appear with a green check on the next screen, while those without Whois privacy will appear with a red X.
You may notice that the Whois privacy column on the My Domains list has a black dash (-) for some of the .CA entries. This is a side effect of the fact that CIRA provides the Whois privacy for .CA domain names directly. Once you manage the Whois privacy by activating it or deactivating it, our system will detect its status and set the appropriate indicator in the Whois privacy column.
